Quick answer: In 2026, a professional website for a small business in India usually costs ₹10,000 to ₹40,000 in the first year, and then ₹5,000 to ₹12,000 a year to keep it online, safe and updated. A very basic one-page site can cost as little as ₹3,000, while a fully custom website or online store from an agency can go well past ₹1,50,000.

The price you are quoted is rarely the price you end up paying. In this guide we break down every rupee — design, domain, hosting, email, maintenance and GST — so you can compare quotes properly and avoid the surprises that usually arrive in year two.

Website cost in India at a glance

Here is what businesses typically pay in India today, by the type of website and who builds it. These are realistic market ranges, not our prices (ours are further down).

Type of websiteWho builds itTypical first-year costYearly running cost

If you plan to sell online, read our separate guide on e-commerce website cost in India — stores have extra costs like payment gateways and shipping.

What you actually pay for: one-time vs yearly costs

Every website, however it is built, is made of the same parts. Some you pay for once; others come back every year.

One-time costs

  • Design and development — planning the layout, building the pages, making it mobile-friendly and fast. This is the biggest one-time cost and the one that varies most.
  • Content — the text, photos and logo. If you have them ready, this costs nothing extra. If you need professional writing or photography, budget separately.
  • Extra pages or features — a booking form, a gallery, a blog, a second language. Most quotes cover a fixed number of pages; each extra page is usually charged (typically ₹1,000–₹3,000 per page).

Yearly (recurring) costs

ItemWhat it isApproximate cost per year
Domain nameYour web address, e.g. yourbusiness.in₹400–₹1,500 (.in and .com; renewals are often higher than first-year offers)
HostingThe server your website lives on₹2,000–₹8,000 for a small business site on shared hosting
SSL certificateThe padlock / https that browsers and Google expectFree (Let’s Encrypt) to ₹3,000+
Business emailAn email address on your own domain instead of a Gmail addressGoogle Workspace lists at ₹99–₹270 per user per month, plus 18% GST
MaintenanceUpdates, backups, security checks, small edits₹0 if included, otherwise ₹500–₹3,000 a month

Don’t forget GST. Website design and hosting are services, so GST at 18% is usually added to the quoted price unless the quote says “inclusive of GST”. Always ask.

Website cost in India per month

Many people search for a monthly figure because hosting, email and maintenance feel like monthly bills. Here is what the yearly costs above work out to per month, after the first year:

ItemTypical cost per month
Hosting for a small business siteabout ₹170–₹670
Domain name (.in or .com)about ₹35–₹125
Business email (Google Workspace, per user)₹99–₹270 + 18% GST
Maintenance (updates, backups, small edits)₹0 if included, otherwise ₹500–₹3,000
Typical total for a small business websiteabout ₹500–₹1,500

For comparison, a BuyWPWebsite Basic plan renews at ₹6,000 a year — ₹500 a month, or under ₹17 a day — with hosting, domain, SSL, maintenance and support already included.

Static vs dynamic vs WordPress website cost

The technology behind a website changes its price — and how easily it can be updated later.

TypeWhat it meansTypical cost in India
Static websiteFixed HTML pages with no admin panel; every change needs a developer₹3,000–₹15,000
WordPress websiteBuilt on WordPress, the most widely used website platform; content can be updated quickly and features added with plugins₹10,000–₹50,000 for a small business site
Custom dynamic websiteCustom-coded site or web app with its own database and admin panel₹40,000–₹2,00,000+

For most small businesses, WordPress hits the sweet spot: cheaper than custom development, far more flexible than a static site, and supported by a huge pool of developers.

The hidden costs nobody mentions in the first quote

Most complaints we hear from business owners are not about the first payment. They are about what came after. Watch out for these:

  • Renewal shock. A ₹2,999 website that renews at ₹8,000 a year is not cheap. Ask for the year-two price in writing before you pay.
  • Every small change is billed. Changing a phone number or a price should not turn into a new paid project. Ask how small edits are handled and whether they are included in the yearly plan.
  • The domain is not in your name. If the designer registers your domain in their own account, moving away later becomes painful. The domain should always be registered to you or your business.
  • No backups. Without regular backups, one bad update or a hacked plugin can wipe out your site. Recovery jobs cost far more than backups.
  • Paid plugins and themes. Some sites depend on premium plugins that need yearly licences. Ask which licences your site needs and who pays for them.
  • Slow, cheap hosting. Very cheap hosting often means a slow website. A slow site loses visitors and ranks lower on Google — a hidden cost you never see on an invoice.

Why a ₹2,999 website often ends up costing more

Very low prices are possible only when something is left out. Usually it is one or more of these: a fixed template with your logo swapped in, no real mobile testing, no SEO basics, no backups, no support after launch, or hosting so small it struggles with a handful of visitors.

That can be fine if you just need a placeholder. But if the website is meant to bring you enquiries — patients, students, clients or orders — a site that looks generic, loads slowly and can’t be found on Google costs you in lost business every single month.

A worked example: 3-year cost of a 5-page website

Let’s compare three common routes for a typical small business that needs a 5-page website (Home, About, Services, Gallery, Contact). The figures below are illustrative but realistic, before GST.

RouteYear 1Year 2Year 33-year total
Freelancer (₹12,000 build; you buy hosting ₹4,000 and domain ₹900; ad-hoc fixes ₹3,000 a year)₹19,900₹7,900₹7,900₹35,700
Agency (₹45,000 build; hosting ₹6,000; domain ₹900; maintenance contract ₹12,000 a year)₹63,900₹18,900₹18,900₹1,01,700
Managed ready-made website (BuyWPWebsite Basic: ₹9,999 including hosting, domain and maintenance; renews at ₹6,000)₹9,999₹6,000₹6,000₹21,999

The point isn’t that one route is always right. An agency makes sense when you need something truly custom. The point is to compare the total cost over three years, not just the first invoice.

How to keep your website cost under control

  1. Get the renewal price in writing — for hosting, domain and maintenance.
  2. Insist the domain is registered in your name.
  3. Ask exactly what is included: number of pages, revisions, hosting, SSL, backups, email, support and training.
  4. Ask how updates work — who changes text, photos and prices, how quickly, and at what cost.
  5. Keep your content ready — logo, photos, service list, timings, address. Delays and rewrites are where budgets slip.
  6. Start small and grow. A strong 5-page site that you update is better than a 30-page site that goes stale. Not sure which pages you need? See our guide to the pages every small business website needs.

Frequently asked questions

Is ₹5,000 enough for a business website in India?

It can buy a basic one-page or template site, usually without much customisation, support or maintenance. For a website that brings in enquiries, plan for at least ₹10,000 in the first year and check what the renewal costs.

Do I have to pay GST on a website?

Website design, hosting and maintenance are services, so GST at 18% generally applies when the seller is GST-registered. Ask whether a quote is inclusive or exclusive of GST, and ask for a GST invoice if you want to claim input tax credit.

Who owns the website after I pay?

It depends on how the website is sold. With a freelancer or agency build you normally own the files once you have paid in full. With a fully managed plan, the provider hosts and runs the website for you for a yearly fee. Either way, ask in writing who owns the domain, what the yearly fee includes and what happens if you stop renewing — before you pay.

How long does it take to build a small business website?

A ready-made website can go live in about 4–12 working days once your content is ready. A custom agency project usually takes 4–10 weeks.

Can I start with a small website and upgrade later?

Yes. Starting with 5 pages and adding pages as your business grows is often the smartest way to manage website cost. Extra pages can be added later at a fixed per-page price.

How much does a 5-page website cost in India?

A 5-page business website usually costs ₹5,000–₹25,000 to build, depending on who builds it and how much design work is involved, plus hosting and domain every year. Our Basic plan covers up to 5 pages for ₹9,999, with the first year of hosting, domain and maintenance included.

How much does a 10-page website cost in India?

Expect roughly ₹10,000–₹40,000 for a 10-page website. Our Standard plan covers up to 15 pages for ₹14,999 and renews at ₹7,000 a year.

How much does website maintenance cost in India?

Website maintenance — updates, backups, security checks and small edits — typically costs ₹500–₹3,000 a month when bought separately. Some plans, including ours, include it in the yearly renewal.

Prices for domains, hosting, email and other third-party services were checked in November 2026 and change often — confirm the latest price before you buy.
